The Department of Business Decisions and Analytics (working group Ass.-Prof. Dr. Tilk) at the University of Vienna is offering the position of a Research Assistant (Praedoc level, 75%) in the FWF-funded project Maschinelles Lernen in BPC für Tourenplanungsprobleme. The position is offered for 2 years with 30 weekly working hours. This includes the offer to conduct a dissertation in this research field. Salary scheme according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff (Group B1, 75%).
Job Description:
The project investigates the integration of Machine Learning into Operations Research methods to solve combinatorial optimization problems. The project focuses on the exact solution of vehicle routing problems. The developed methods are implemented (i.e., coded) for specific applications and their benefit is evaluated in computational studies.

Your Profile:
– Master’s degree (or equivalent) in management, economics, mathematics, computer science, or industrial engineering.
– Strong knowledge of Operations research.
– Experience in the application of Machine Learning methods.
– Thesis written in Operations Research, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
– Experience in the development and implementation of decision support tools, in particular, the implementation of Operations Research methods (e.g., in C, C++, or Java) and/or the usage of Machine Learning tools.
– Proficiency in written and spoken English.
– The ability to explain complex facts in an understandable way and to work independently as well as in a team.
