Mehiddin Al-Baali is currently Professor at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, Research Fellow at DEIS, Calabria University, Italy, Associate Member at GERAD-HEC Montreal, Canada, and had held appointments at UAE and Ajman Universities, UAE, and Damascus University, Syria. He received his PhD, MSc and Diploma from Dundee University, Scotland, and his BSc from Damascus University, Syria. His research interest lies in the area of numerical optimization with software algorithms for small and large-scale problems. In addition to his attractive “first practical convergence result,” for the Fletcher-Reeves method, he published 4 textbooks (in Arabic) and 40 papers, edited 4 books and 5 special issue journals, delivered numerous talks at high level conferences and well-known institutes, hosted more than 20 eminent researchers, obtained 20 research grant/contract projects, etc. Therefore, he was able to organize 23 (Chair 10) international conferences/workshops successfully and become Associate Editor for some international journals, Reviewer for Mathematical Reviews (of 30 papers) and more than 35 international journals, Referee for Promotion Evaluations and Research Fellowship Applications, etc. He taught a range of mathematical subjects at all university levels and become an External Assessor and Examiner for certain BSc and MSc programmes. He also awarded the Distinguished Researcher at SQU and the best teacher in his Department.
