The Chair in Financial Management and Innovation Finance invites for applications to a 3-year PhD position on the topic of quantitative modelling and complex systems. The starting time of the position is January 1, 2025.

The position is linked to the newly established interdisciplinary Graduate School Program “Navigating the Chaos of Innovation and Transformation” (NACHOS), funded by the state Sachsen-Anhalt and the ESF+. The program investigates how technological and digital innovations are managed and implemented in different spheres of society and what conflicts arise in the process. It aims, among other things, to provide impulses for new forms of work, processes and organizational forms, as well as measures to promote the acceptance of (smart) technologies. The focus is particularly on an interdisciplinary approach in which researchers and young scientists from the social and economic sciences work closely together.
The advertised PhD-position belongs to the scientific sub-project on modelling technology acceptance and will investigate how the decision-making behavior of social systems impacts the evaluation and modeling of uncertain investment and diffusion dynamics of innovations.
• You research on behavioral issues of technology adoption and develop mathematical models and algorithms for the simulation and analysis oftechnology adoption and diffusion under uncertainty and their impact on corporate decision making
• You participate in diverse thematic courses and research colloquia of the offered by the international Graduate School Program
• You will present research results at scientific conferences and work on publication projects
• You will have the opportunity to gain academic qualifications as part of a doctorate and will be supported accordingly
We expect a university degree with honors (diploma/master's degree) in the field of business administration/economics with focus on mathematical finance, (industrial) physics, (industrial) mathematics or a comparable course of study
• You have very good methodological knowledge of game-theory and/or financial mathematics and are willing to explore and learn methods fromphysics
• You are confident in using computer algebra systems (CAS) and programming languages, especially Python, Mathematica and/or MATLAB
• You want to work scientifically and are actively pursuing a doctorate
• In addition to very good English language skills (C1), you have the ability to work in a team, a high level of motivation and social skills
• You have the opportunity to pursue a PhD and are supported and promoted accordingly
