The Laboratory of Optimization Methods and Models invites applications for three postdoctoral research positions in Operations Research. Successful candidates will work at both the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) and the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA) in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil.
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) supports the positions, which offers a monthly stipend of R$12,000.00. Additional funding is available for relocation expenses and participation in international conferences, workshops, and research trips (up to 15% of the annual fellowship). Each position is for a one-year term.
Research Focus Areas:
The main project themes include cutting problems, packing, lot-sizing, production scheduling, routing, location, and their integration in industrial and logistical contexts.

Project Descriptions:
Project 01:
Production Routing Problem (PRP) This project aims to optimize integrated production and distribution decisions in multi-plant companies with dynamic demand. The focus is on the Production Routing Problem (PRP), developing innovative methods to address unexplored challenges in the literature. The research will utilize data from a multinational aluminium packaging company, which has the potential to be applied to other industrial sectors.
Project 02:
Minimization of Open Stacks Problem (MOSP) This project will explore new formulations and methods to enhance computational performance in solving the Minimization of Open Stacks Problem (MOSP). It seeks to reduce the space of equivalent solutions and explore strategies for decomposing the problem into smaller parts. Given its similarity to the MOSP, the developed formulations will be adapted to the Tool Switching Problem in Flexible Manufacturing Systems.
Project 03:
Storage Location Assignment Problem (SLAP) This project targets the Storage Location Assignment Problem (SLAP) in large-scale distribution centers, focusing on optimizing bin utilization and improving picking operations. It will employ linear optimization model and heuristic techniques to allocate items, considering bin capacity and previous purchase data. The goal is to improve storage efficiency and pick operations using data from an e-commerce company while meeting specific requirements, such as regulatory requirements from Anvisa for regulated products.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related field, with experience in C++, metaheuristics, mathematical modelling, and exact methods. The Ph.D. must have been awarded within the past five years.
