The International Transactions in Operational Research (ITOR), the flagship journal published by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies, will publish a special issue dedicated to managing supply chain resilience in the digital economy era.
Supply chains are increasingly exposed to disruptions, which may arise from uncertainties in trade policies, economy, new technologies, and natural environment. Disruptions can adversely impact profitability and business continuity of supply chains. Supply chain resilience (SCR) is recognized as an effective strategy to cope with disruptions and recover. While some capabilities have been identified effective to improve SCR, it is still a challenging task to manage SCR for researchers and managers, especially in the era of digital economy.
In the digital economy era, data have become an important production factor. Using the data can improve the ability of supply chains to respond to disruptions and risks. With the development of the digital economy, new business forms and models emerge such as telecommuting, digital platforms, human–AI collaboration, and humanless economy. Generally, emergent technologies, such as cloud, Internet of Things, blockchain, Industry 4.0, Metaverse, augmented and virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, have promoted the digital transformation of supply chains, which enables new opportunities but also threats for SCR.
