|Purpose and history||As declared by the EURO Council, the main purpose of the EWG's is to encourage communication and research between small groups of members specialising in particular topics. The WG is open to people with different backgrounds (like industry, university, etc) and who are interested on OR methods and its application in Agriculture and Forest Management in order to exchange ideas, experiences and research results. In this context, we invite everyone interested in this topic to join us.|
|Members||The group started in 2003 with approximately 40 members from different countries. The number has been increased since then and now we are more than 140. People belongs mainly to EU contries but we have also a significant representation from America and Asia. The full list of members is shown at the webpage of the group (www.orafm.org). |
|Past activities||The first meeting of the WG was held in September 2004 at Silsoe Research Institute (UK). |
The second meeting of the WG was in July 2006 in the EURO Conference held in Reykjavik (Iceland).
The third meeting of the WG was integrated within EURO XXII Conference held in Prague (Czech Republic), july 2007.
The forth meeting was a stream at the OR50 held in York (UK), september 2008.
The fifth meeting of the WG was held in Bonn within EURO XXIII, july 2009. Furthermore we have also organised the EURO Summer Institute 2009 held in Lleida (Spain).
The sixth meeting of the WG was integrated within EURO XXIV in Lisbon, july 2010. We fail to celebrate a meeting in 2011 and 2012 but we organised a stream in the past EURO Conference and are already organising next meeting within EURO XXVI in Rome.
|Future activities||The seventh meeting of the WG will be held within next EURO Conference in Rome, july 2013. |
The WG is also involved in the joint organisation of a MiniEURO Conference devoted to “Collaborative Decision Systems in Economics and in Complex Societal and Environmental Applications” to be held in Graz (Austria) in October 2013.
A proposal of a new Summer Institute in 2014 (soon after the IFORS Conference) is approved.
|Publications||An special volume devoted to "OR in Agriculture and Forest Management" has been published in Annals of Operations Research (Volume 190). |
Given the successful results of this first volume, a second one is being prepared taking profit of papers presented at ESI2009 we organised. This volume devoted to "Methods and Applications in Natural Resources Management" is completed.
A Springer book within the Handbook of Operational Research series is being prepared.The topic of the book is about OR in Agriculture and the Agri-Food Industry.
|Budget||Until this moment limited financial support has been regularly received from EURO. The EURO annual subside was received in 2008 and 2009. Year 2009 we have had additional support for the successful preparation of the EURO Summer Institute. In 2010 and beyond we have received a regular annual support. This has been so till now.|
