| Purpose and history | In July 1996, at the IFORS conference in Vancouver, the idea of a DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) Euro Working Group emerged, from the realisation that a number of researchers working in the field could benefit from a forum where they could discuss their ideas and foster collaborative work. The EURO Working Group on DEA and Performance Measurement has been established in 1997, after an application to the EURO Executive Committee. Many of the active members were participants of the EURO Summer Institute on DEA in Warwick in 1998. The activities have emphasised the integration of young researchers, especially graduate students to the field. The main activity has been organising special workshops for young researchers in co-operation with established conferences, i.e. European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis and North American Productivity Workshop. In 2003 the working group decided to change its name to be more comprehensive in the sense that researchers using other methodologies (i.e. SFA) in the field of efficiency and productivity analysis are also included in the Group. Thus, the EURO Working Group on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (EURO WG EPA) is the new name of the working group. The main objectives of the working group are to:

| Members | The group has approximately 350 members. |
| Past activities | Recent Activities: On July 2-4, 2010, the EURO Working Group on Efficiency & Productivity Analysis organised an International Conference on "Global Trends in the Efficiency and Risk Management of Financial Services" in Chania, Crete in collaboration with the Financial Engineering Laboratory (FEL), Technical University of Crete, Efficiency and Productivity Research Unit (EPRU) of the University of Leicester School of Management, and the UK Efficiency and Productivity Analysis Network (UKEPAN. This had been a highly successful event and attracted 70 participants from around 20 countries, with publishing opportunities in European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Financial Stability, and Journal of Productivity Analysis. Please refer to the website to find out more on this event: http://www.dpem.tuc.gr/fel/epa2010/ The support we had from EURO last year was used towards the Young Researchers' Session in this meeting. Past Activities: The first working group meeting and seminar day was held in conjunction with the 6th European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (EWEPA)(Copenhagen, Denmark) in 1999. The 2000 and 2002 meeting and the pre/post conference workshop took place within the North American Productivity Workshop (NAPW)(Schnectady, NY, USA). The Workshop organisers provided funding for European graduate students to participate in the workshop. This funding was co-ordinated by the working group. In 2001 a group meeting was held within the 7th EWEPA (Oviedo, Spain). Conference organisers arranged a post conference workshop for young researchers. In 2003, the working group organised a DEA tutorial at the EURO/INFORMS 2002 Conference in Istanbul. The tutorial was given by Prof. Emmanuel Thanassoulis. The Working group meeting took place within the 8th European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (Oviedo, Spain). A one-day pre-conference workshop was organised for young researchers and special funding was provided for graduate students. Between 2003-2010, EURO WG EPA actively participated to the EWEPA and NAPW meetings and organised group meetings and Young Researchers' Sessions. Activities in 2011: a) XII EWEPA Workshop in Verona (Italy), June 22-24, 2011 b) Specal PhD Sessions on Banking Efficiency at IFABS, July 1, 2011,Rome, Italy b) EURO WG EPA Meeting in Leicester (UK), November, 2011 Activities in 2012: a) PhD sessions on Banking Efficiency in IFABS 2012 Valencia Conference, 18-20 June, 2012 b) Young researchers sessions at the APPC 2012 Meeting, Bangkok,July 24, 2012 Tomasz Gerard Czekaj received the Best Paper Award written by a PhD student. Many congratulations to Tomasz from EURO WG EPA members. |
| Future activities | The EURO Working Group on Efficiency & Productivity Analysis will continue to organise pre- or post-conference workshops in conjunction with productivity workshops, NAPW and EWEPA which are held in North America and Europe respectively. Activities in 2013: 1. EURO WG EPA Meeting (in collaboration with UNIDO and Rice University), 19 March, 2013, Leicester, United Kingdom Keynote speaker: Prof Robin Sickles (Rice University) 2. Young Researchers/PhD sessions at EWEPA”13 Conference, 17-20 June, 2013, Helsinki, Finland 3. Young Researchers/PhD sessions on Bank Efficiency, 26-28 June, 2013, Nottingham, United Kingdom (in collaboration with University of Cambridge and University of Warwick) |
